About Us
The op shop raises funds to assist impoverished Indian woman as well as the local Buddhist Centre by selling donated goods. This includes clothing and accessories, household goods and other items. We are also sensitive to the environment and are committed to recycling and reuse. We run the shop within Buddhist principles of generosity, ethical speech, honesty and mindfulness.
Our shop is a little place nestled between other op shops on Enmore Rd in Enmore (near Newtown). We get all sorts of customers including lots of regulars. There is a very positive buzz than comes from our customers which is delightful. We also get lots of support through donations.
Our volunteers love working with us, and some have been surprised just how much fun the work actually is (they forget to go home!). The work is very rewarding and creative. We are happy to let you trial working with us before committing further. A Guidebook to working in the shop, on the job training and support are provided.

Volunteer Needs

Shifts
We are open Wednesday to Sunday (eventually we hope to open 7 days a week). Shifts available are flexible according to your availability. Shifts can range from many times a week to just once a month, from three hours to a full day. We are especially keen on weekend volunteers at the moment.
Duties and Requirements
As a volunteer with us your duties will include:
• Customer service and cash handling
• Sorting – going through donations and sorting into saleable and non-saleable items. Bag and store according to categories.
• Stock filling – pricing of items and placing them on racks and shelves.
• General light cleaning
The role suits people who:
• Genuinely like people and can get along well with customers and other volunteers.
• Aren’t too scared of handling cash and using a simple register (we will train and support you!).
• Enjoy op shopping themselves (not a prerequisite but very handy).
It does not suit people who:
• Are not sympathetic to Buddhism and Buddhist principles.
• Have difficulty interacting with strangers (our customers!).
• Will not use a cash register.
